Vanity Metric

A vanity metric is a number that looks impressive but may not show meaningful progress toward a goal.

Follower count, impressions, or likes can become vanity metrics if they are reported without context or connection to outcomes.

The same metric can still be useful when tied to a clear objective, benchmark, or decision.

The fix for vanity metrics is not ignoring them, but connecting them to a decision, benchmark, audience quality signal, or deeper business outcome.
